Social Networking Sites
Social Networking - MySpace.com, LinkedIn.com, Facebook.com and other social networking sites allow you to make a profile for free and post your information.
It's sort of like a mini website. They can be effective if done well and they allow users to contact you directly through the sites. They are free. Unfortunately, everyone thinks they are a great designer of these profiles and we see many that actually detract rather than enhance the user experience while they are on the site and a company's objectives might not be accomplished unless they are set up well.
Twitter.com is a unique instant messaging service that gives you 140 characters to get your message out. Used by millions to 'tweet' back and forth about anything is now being tapped into by businesses but certain protocols apply. It has to be personal, and not just selling something. If you want to see what a 'trend' is, visit www.search.twitter.com and put in your search term like "skate" or "twilight" or some other term that applies to your particular business and see what the world is talking about. This gives you an idea of how to relate to others on Twitter. You can customize your background too! To see one that I've done for the American Skating Association, visit www.twitter.com/ASASkate
Watch for more details on this topic, it's too big for one article and will be split and expanded.
